Maria Trombini (Max Weber Institut für Soziologie) and Felipe Bley (Guestspeaker, FIAN International Heidelberg, Human Rights Lawyer from Brazil)
Lecture opened to the public:
Taking action on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (Event in English Language): Maria Trombini and Felipe Bley-Folly will share some experiences on international advocacy strategies aiming to make Economic, Social, and Cultural rights a reality for indigenous peoples in Brazil. One of the central points of this debate will be about the accountability of EU member states as well as of European corporations carrying out their activities beyond Europe when human rights violations take place. Can we talk about extraterritorial human rights obligations of these actors? What do we have to do with indigenous peoples from Brazil/Latin America? What is the state of art of the Treaty on Transnational Business and Human Rights being negotiated before the UN Human Rights Council?
